Why Food and Travel?

Since I can remember I always wanted to be in the company of food, assist with the preparation of food, cook it and bake it, and then of course, enjoy eating all of it. Savoury and sweet. Another passion of mine was, and still is, to travel the World.   So! I have a passion for Food and Travel, and nothing has changed yet!

Looking Back…

In my junior grades and during visits at my Grandparents’ farm, my Great Grandmother (a good self-taught cook herself, and already in her 80’s then), laid the foundation of what would become my love for cooking and baking, which opened the whole of the Culinary World to me. During our cooking and baking excursions, she would tell me stories about England and other countries, so my passion to travel, grew congruently.

More About Me and My Passion

At home our visitors always enjoyed cakes, tarts or scones, I prepared with love and care. At school still, I would cook dinner many times, to the delight of my mother. In the mid 1980’s, I enjoyed the opportunity of “chef in training” at a one of the most prestigious Caterers’ Schools in South Africa. Soon after that, other opportunities presented themselves, and before I realised, I visited 9 countries in Europe. My dream of travelling the world kicked-off, and today many years later, I have traveled extensively and uninterrupted. I always tried to coincide travelling and dining.

Seeing how other people live, cook and eat, inspired me just more-and-more. Subsequent to all of this, I attended many cooking and baking courses, in South Africa and some of them abroad. From Vietnam, at the Culinary School of Saigon, to Istanbul in Turkey, Francistown in Botswana, Dublin in Ireland and Mendoza in Argentina.

85 Countries Later

Today, after visiting more than 80 Countries, I view my travel and culinary encounters as wonderful and unique opportunities that provide a firm base on which my skills are built.  I now want to share the knowhow of what I have gained and learnt over time, with you. These are my ideas, my stories and my experiences.
